Dr. Laura Hoyt D’Anna is Senior Research Fellow for CSULB and Director of the Center for Health Equity Research. Dr. D’Anna has eighteen years experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of public and community health agencies and programs. She gained extensive experience designing, implementing, and evaluating clinic-based behavioral STI/HIV risk-reduction interventions in her role as Project Manager for Project RESPECT. Project RESPECT was a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) funded multi-site randomized trial comparing the effect of a theory-driven HIV counseling and testing intervention with the CDC standard intervention and a minimalist intervention. Dr. D’Anna’s primary research interests are racial and ethnic health disparities and specifically, how experiences of discrimination affect health and health disparities. In her current role at CSULB, Dr. D’Anna assists in the development of research and evaluation design, protocols and activities, including development of measurement tools, analyses of quantitative data, and preparation of findings in report, grant proposal and presentation formats. Previously, Dr. D’Anna served as Vice President of Community Affairs for Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties in California; the executive director of the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, a non-profit, community-based clinic; and manager of Preventive Health Clinical Services for the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services.
