Employee of the Month - January 2026


Hedrick Flores, Advisor
College of Education – Liberal Studies Department

Awarded Wednesday, January 14 at Friendship Walk. Hedrick Flores was joined by President Andrew Jones, College of Education Dean Anna Ortiz, Liberal Studies department chair Nat Hansuvadha, and numerous campus colleagues.

Since his start, Hedrick has been involved in the College of Education and has established himself as an integral part of the college, demonstrating commitment, reliability, and a student-centered approach to his work.

Lead Advisor Nancy De Haro stated, “Hedrick has been an exceptional leader with our Beach XP cohorts for the College of Education, leading the activity hours…Thanks to Hedrick’s leadership and vision, we have one of the more successful programs at CSULB with high student involvement,” reflecting his ability to engage students and create meaningful programming.

Additionally, he oversees the peer mentors for the Liberal Studies department who equally support and guide students who need assistance with class registration, emotional support, setting goals, and college navigation.

“…with his leadership the peer mentors are expanding their leadership skills and have helped create a sense of community for our new students,” noted Nancy.

Daisy Aguirre-Lopez, Academic Success Program Coordinator with the College of Engineering shared, “Whether stepping in to assist during peak advising times or mentoring newer staff, he models teamwork and compassion…Through his leadership, empathy, and advocacy, Hedrick embodies the spirit of The Beach—championing student success, fostering inclusive excellence, and uplifting both students and colleagues in meaningful, lasting ways.”

Hedrick expressed gratitude for the College of Education “for making the work environment feel like a second home where opportunities and ideas are always welcomed.”

Hedrick received his BA in human services from CSUDH, his master's in education - with a concentration in higher education and is now currently working towards his doctorate degree in educational leadership from Cal Poly Pomona.
