The Critical Justice Committee is a cooperative committee in the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Emergency Management at CSULB. The members work together to achieve the Critical Justice Committee mission, share leadership, have an equal amount of power, and have equal responsibility for the actions of the committee.
THE MISSION OF THE CRITICAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE
- Ensure a school culture that encourages a holistic view of criminology, criminal justice, and emergency management that incorporates and elevates critical analyses challenging oppressive hierarchies;
- Encourage faculty to learn about racism and white supremacy, particularly within the criminal justice system and higher education, to understand its pervasiveness and damaging effects;
- Promote antiracist and other critical scholarship, teaching, service, and activism; and
- Broaden the discussion of serious crime to include critical analyses of political, financial, and environmental offenses committed by governmental, public, and private entities that perpetuate oppression of marginalized groups.
