Employee of the Month - January 2025

Lisette Alvarez, College of Business Accreditation Office
Assessment & Accreditation Analyst

Awarded Monday, January 13 at Friendship Walk. Lisette Alvarez was joined by President Jane Close Conoley, College of Business (COB) Dean Mark Suazo, Associate Dean of COB Accreditation Jasmine Yur-Austin, Administrative Services Manager Melissa Mata, numerous COB colleagues, and Lisette’s mom, Rosa.

Jasmine Yur-Austin, Associate Dean of COB Accreditation, noted that only 6% of business schools worldwide have achieved Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation. CSULB’s COB stands out as one of the approximately 1,000 business schools out of 17,000 receiving this prestigious accreditation.

In July 2024, COB received official extended accreditation for another six years. Yur-Austin delineated that “this was made possible by Lisette Alvarez’s meticulous attention to detail, strong work ethic, and dedication to her job.”

To help prepare the official report for AACSB, Lisette compiled and vetted thousands of learners’ learning outcomes data, she created a dashboard to illustrate learning outcomes, and edited and published the quarterly Engagement, Impact, and Innovation publication.

Just when COB thought they were ready for the AACSB Peer Review Team official campus visit, a severe storm threatened Southern California, leading to campus closure and the cancellation of the visit.

Lisette remained calm and spearheaded the rescheduling of the new campus visit, securing hotel rooms and conference rooms, and coordinating with approximately 100 internal and external attendees regarding the new date.

Ultimately, she organized the seamless execution of the official visit.

Additionally, her passion for supporting COB’s mission of promoting social mobility by providing opportunities for diverse students led her to become the editor for publishing the first-ever student-focused magazine, "Rising and Shining," highlighting COB’s graduates.

Yur-Austin added, “Lisette continuously exceeds expectations in every task she undertakes.”

“I am very grateful to be a part of an awesome team and a supportive environment that has provided me with many opportunities for growth. A Special Thank you goes out to all of our COB staff for being so supportive and team players during our re-accreditation process, Dr. J and I could not have done it without the help from EVERYONE. Thank you, Jasmine, for being an amazing and encouraging supervisor.”

Lisette earned her BA in Chicano Studies from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s in education from Claremont Graduate University. She previously taught elementary school before working in higher education. She has always had a passion for education.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying new brunch spots, walks by the beach, salsa dancing and spending time with friends and family.
