Sal Espinoza, Parking Events Logistics Coordinator
Parking & Operations
Awarded Wednesday, October 15 at Friendship Walk. Sal was joined by President Andrew Jones, Associate VP of Budget and Administration Kara Perkins, Director of Parking and Operations Amy Gerety, and numerous departmental colleagues.
Art Sigsbury, Operations Manager, commended Sal Espinoza, Parking Events Logistics Coordinator, for his exceptional management of the Lot G12 closure this summer at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.
“What could have been a major challenge was handled with thoughtfulness, professionalism, and a genuine spirit of partnership. Sal’s leadership and dedication were evident throughout the entire run of productions and events at the Arts Center. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure patrons had the best possible experience.”
Sal demonstrated strong leadership and customer service, ensuring a seamless experience for patrons by:
- Strategically positioning staff to guide visitors unaware of parking changes.
- Implementing safe, efficient traffic and pedestrian flow systems.
- Managing parking tent and signage setup and teardown with efficiency.
- Coordinating special drop-off and shuttle services for less mobile patrons.
Throughout the events, Sal maintained a positive, solutions-oriented attitude and proactively addressed challenges. His dedication earned formal recognition from Megan Kline Crockett, Executive Director of the Arts Center, who praised his visible commitment and care for maintaining a strong partnership between Parking Services the venue, and its patrons.
Sal performance exemplified operational excellence, adaptive leadership, and outstanding stakeholder relations under challenging conditions.
Art additionally noted that Sal assists in team development and supporting other staff by encouraging them “to take on more responsibility and assume roles when they might be hesitant to do so” and he contributes to positive culture building by maintaining “a Wall of Fame for departing students to express appreciation for their efforts within the department.”
Sal has worked at Cal State Long Beach for 18 years, in Parking and Operations since 2014. He loves animals, and in his free time, he enjoys sports and travelling. He also highlighted a fun fact: he is “number 5 of 9 siblings, right in the middle.”
